About Destination 2055
The Capital Area and Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning Organizations (CAMPO and DCHC MPO) are working collaboratively to develop Destination 2055, the next Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) for the Triangle Region. Destination 2055 will be a long-range plan for transportation improvements across the region, including roadway, transit, rail, bicycle, pedestrian, and other transportation projects over the next 30 years.
Metropolitan Transportation Plans (MTPs) are developed by Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) to guide decision making about future investments in transportation projects within the MPOs’ respective planning areas. The areas covered by this plan include Durham and Wake Counties and portions of Chatham, Franklin, Granville, Harnett, Johnston, and Orange Counties as shown in the map below. Areas shown in green are part of the Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro MPO, while those shown in yellow are part of the Capital Area MPO.
The Triangle region is growing rapidly and coordinated planning for future transportation investments is critical for the future quality of life in the region. Transportation is an issue that transcends municipal and county boundaries and requires a regional approach.
A set of jointly-developed goals and objectives toward a shared of vision of the region’s future transportation system will be the guiding principles for the development of Destination 2055. Performance measures will be used to compare how the choices made in the plan stack up against these and objectives and allow progress to be tracked over time.
A key component of the planning process is engagement with the public, with multiple opportunities for input and review throughout the process.
