As the Destination 2055 development process unfolds, this page will serve as a repository of interim documents and analyses that inform the overall process. Check back for future updates as work on the plan continues through 2024 and 2025.

Goals and Objectives are developed early in the process of developing a Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) to help guide decision making throughout the process. Goals are short high-level statements that indicate an intended outcome, whereas objectives are more specific actions or steps that the MPOs intend to undertake through the course of the plan in order to reach the desired goals. CAMPO and DCHC MPO have worked together to develop generally-consistent goals and objectives to guide the plan, although there are some differences in language between the two MPOs as indicated in the documents below.

The typical process for developing a Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP) includes the identification of plan goals, forecasting of future conditions, evaluation of multiple transportation investment alternatives, selection of a preferred solution, and creation of a final plan. Due to time and resource constraints and other practical limitations, we often do not have an opportunity during the official MTP process to test and answer all the “what if…” questions that may be of interest to answer. This pre-MTP scenario testing exercise was created to allow the Triangle Region to answer some of those “what if…” questions, and to hopefully use the knowledge learned through the exercise to inform the alternatives that get analyzed as part of the official 2055 MTP process.

A number of surveys are typically conducted during the course of developing a Metropolitan Transportation Plan. A separate page, linked below, has been set up to house the summary documents related to these surveys.
