Public Input Opportunities

Public engagement is a significant component of the Destination 2055 development process. Investment decisions cannot be based solely on performance numbers and the efforts of the MPO/TPO staff and policy boards. Public engagement elicits the input of a variety of stakeholders and residents to help create a broader-based plan, and the engagement process provides an opportunity to build credibility and public support for the adopted plan.

During this phase of the plan’s development, community input is needed to help identify the most important elements of the modelled improvements in the three scenarios that should be included in the updated plan – the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan (MTP). This public input will inform the decision-making process for both the planning team as well as the MPOs’ boards.

Key Decision Points

There are four key decision points in the Destination 2055 process that will include specific directed public engagement:

1 Vision, Goals & Objectives

Alternatives Analysis

Preferred Option Review

Destination 2055 Adoption

Each step within the Destination 2055 process will include opportunities for members of the public to engage and provide input to decision makers.

A survey for Step 1 – Vision, Goals and Objectives was conducted in Winter 2023-24.

Step – Alternative Analysis engagement is underway now!

  • Learn more about the Alternatives Analysis process, and the different scenarios that are being modeled.
  • Take the Alternative Futures survey before it closes on May 26, 2025 and share the link with others who may be interested! Help identify the most important elements of the modelled improvements in the three scenarios that should be included in the updated plan.

Step – Preferred Option Review

The 2055 update will select a “preferred option” based on the alternatives analysis that is completed.  Costs and possible land uses will determine which projects are selected for preference to be completed over the next 30 years.

For example, during the 2050 MTP update process, the CAMPO Board voted to include an assumption of an additional 1/2 cent sales tax to expend additional funds on public transportation, bicycle, pedestrian, and other non-roadway investments.

Step – Destination 2055 Adoption

The 2055 update is planned to be adopted at the end of 2025. It will contain all projects that are expected to receive funding over the next 30 years (maps will be available for reviewing projects extents).

Engagement throughout these several stages allows members of the community to provide input every step of the way, and see how their comments made a difference in the final plan update.

The adoption of the plan is the final review and gives everyone an opportunity to see how all of the pieces have come together.

Public Engagement Materials
